There are several points of interest to watch as a result of the latest meeting of the Mail.dat community. Mail.dat version 07-1 will be coming early next year. Target for release for the new spec will be March, with a “must catch” date in April. The USPS wants the implementation window for the next version of Mail.dat (to be known as 07-1) to be 60 days, shortened from the usual 90-day cycle. Timing is important so that it coincides properly with the new rate case. Any items that don’t make the 07-1 release are already being listed for a 07-2 update later in 2007.
