FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
PostMaster Clarion 7.3 Version
Q: Why did Window Book decide to change their programming language from Clarion C5.5 to Clarion 7.3?
A: There were many reasons so we’ll share with you the top five. Each of these improvements helps us protect your investment in Window Book software.
- Increases the productivity of our development staff, allowing us to deliver higher-quality results to our clients in a more timely fashion.
- Provides build automation capabilities that allow our deployment and testing teams to deliver consistently-built, better-tested software.
- Allows our software to support current and future versions of Windows, and do so more rapidly than in the past.
- Positions our tools and our software for the migration to MSSQL.
- Improves the quality and stability of our software by building upon the latest Clarion runtime system.
Q: Do I have to update to the C7.3 version?
A: Yes. Extensive internal testing has been performed over the past few months as we’ve been maintaining our development in efforts in both versions of the software. All of our development projects are now being performed only in the C7.3 version which will render your C5.5 version obsolete very soon. We are providing our clients with the opportunity to upgrade now in order to take advantage of the many enhancements and fixes we’ve deployed in C7.3.
Q: Who can update to this new version of Post Master?
A: Any new Window Book client who has purchased Post Master without Postal Package Partner. Any current Window Book client that does NOT currently have Postal Package Partner may update to the new version of Post Master. We are currently wrapping up our C7.3 work on the PPP program and it is expected to be released in July.
Q: How do I install this new version of Post Master on top of my current software?
A: The new version of Post Master will be installed exactly the same as you do today. All of the new program files will be installed into the same program and data paths that you currently have.
Q: What happens if I perform the update of my current Post Master software and I run into a major issue that hinders my ability to use the program?
A: If, after updating to the Post Master C7.3 version something goes awry, you may revert back to your original C5.5 version by simply editing the Target of your icon to point back to postmaster.exe. The other alternative would be that you could reinstall the last C5.5 version of Post Master. Simply renaming the Target of the icon would be much quicker and painless. Until Post Master C7.3 has been in the field for at least 2-4 months, we will continue to allow both C5.5 and C7.3 exes and dlls to reside in the same directory. After such time has passed, the C7.3 installation will be updated to remove those older, out-of-date program files.
