Bound Printed Matter mailings require Postal Permit
The United States Postal Service now requires all Bound Printed Matter (BPM)
mailings be paid by postal permit only as of today September 11, 2008.
Mailers can no longer pay for Bound Printed Matter with
a Meter or Stamp.
Postage payment for all BPM mailings, are limited to permit imprint as of September
11, 2008.
As a result of this classification change, mailers will no longer be able to pay
for postage with PC Postage, stamps, or a postage meter. BPM mailings are no longer
accepted at retail counters, in collection boxes or by carriers. Mailers must deposit
Bound Printed Matter mailings at Business Mail Acceptance area in the back of the
Post Office facility that issued them the permit.
Those who hold merchandise return service permit will be able to continue to pay
non-presorted BPM prices on eligible items that are returned with a merchandise
