On May 3rd the Postal Service announced it plans to raise the price of a First-Class® stamp by 3 cents to 42 cents and suggested a "forever" stamp that would help ease the transition to any future rate inflation.We bring you important news from USPS®.On May 3rd the Postal Service announced it plans to raise the price of a First-Class® stamp by 3 cents to 42 cents and suggested a "forever" stamp that would help ease the transition to any future rate inflation. The changes could take effect as soon as spring of 2007.
The forever stamp is designed to ease the pain of this rate change: these stamps would be sold at First-Class price and it would be valid to be used for any First-Class rate, regardless of future increases.
Along with rate increase for First-Class mail, there will be changes for other types of mail as well including Standard Mail®, Package Services®, Express Mail®, and Priority Mail®.
The postal service will be placing more emphasize on shape than weight in setting new rates thus having mailers redesign packaging or change their operation system for more efficiency.
