Processing your mailings using before/after rates Question: We have a concern if we will be able to run a mailing with new rates before the actual effective date. Due to the complexity and bulkiness of our programs, there is sometimes a large window between running the software and final verification with USPS. Answer: Your concerns regarding the new rates and the use of our software is an issue we've always anticipated and can accommodate quite nicely. Once the USPS has a final ruling on the new postage rates, our software will be updated with this information in advance of the effective date. You will be able to process your mailings in DAT-MAIL or Post Master with current and new rates. The reason for this is because we use the Mail Date to gather the rate information. Rates/postage that are displayed on reports and postage statements will be governed by the Mail Date listed in the file and on the statements. This eliminates the need for our customers to update at the last minute. When a Mail.dat® file is imported into DAT-MAIL, go to the Mail Schedule View and set the Mail Date on the entries. Any report that you run (Rate Summary, etc.) will reflect the postage information that's in effect for that Mail Date. When the time comes to generate statements on those files, whatever Mail Date you choose will be used for the postage rate information as well. This is also true when manually keying in a statement through DAT-MAIL Statements or Post Master.
