Presort Mailing
Before presorting, make sure the configuration settings are correct.
Set the mailer name to be your company. Set the contact phone. The job title, user ID, and job ID should have the appropriate mail job names.
That's so the mail.dat file will have an easily identifiable ID when imported into DAT-MAIL.
Go to the "Presort Setup screen and set up the presort configuration. Set the weight, size, piece type, and others. The mail class must be Standard Mail. Since we’re going to use an Open and Distribute, the whole package will be treated as if mailing from the drop ship. Set the mail drop ZIP+4 to be the same as the Chicago entry office (60130-2296). Set the BMC to be “BMC CHICAGO IL 60808". Don’t worry about the number of trays or their weight. Open and Distribute mailing only charge the contents’ weight inside the trays when being shipped as Priority Mail. The tare weight of the empty containers will not be included.
Press the “Presort” button.
You should then generate the "maildat.* files in order to most effectively use DAT-MAIL. Copy them to someplace easy to find.
You won't need to print the tray tags or postage statements. DAT-MAIL will do that. You do need to print the CASS certificate. Printing the Addresses
Before printing the letters or cards, always look at the mailing statement first. If it looks good and your boss approves, then print out the letters. It is possible that your presort program will try to divide the BMC drop shipment mailing into multiple trays. It probably won’t allow the user to change the presort discount to use only one tray. That’s OK because the tray weights are not included when doing priority mail. Still, Open and Distribute may end up being too expensive to be worth using.
Below is the picture of the cards being positioned for printing in the address printer.
Whenever you run a presort program, you should generate mail.dat files.
Copy maildat.* files to a permanent folder. Dat-Mail will read the maildat.* files from the permanent folder. The mail.dat files should not be overwritten because Dat-Mail reads them. Each set of mail.dat files should reside in their own folder. |
