Business Mail Academy

Whether you are new to the mailing industry or a seasoned veteran, there is always occasion for expanding your knowledge. The United States Postal Service® (USPS®) offers a number of classes and certifications, both online and at their National Center for Employment Development (NCED) training center in Norman, OK. The USPS has made it easier to access this training information with a new web page for their Business Mail Academy (BMA).

Mail Design Professional

This nine-hour course is offered online and through qualifying sessions at various events during the year, such as the National Postal Forum (NPF) and Postal Customer Council (PCC) events. The course covers the classes of mail and processing categories, basic addressing, barcode formats, automation letters and automation flats, reply mail, and Address Information System (AIS) products. Successful completion of the course results in a Mail Design Professional ("MDP") certification, which requires re-certification every two years.

Executive Mail Center Manager

The Executive Mail Center Manager (EMCM) is a five-day course, and is available at the NCED center, and also by attending qualifying sessions at NPF and PCC events. In addition, there is an annual training program available for previously certified people who wish to update their certification.

Periodicals Professional

This is a three-day course, designed for people who want to increase their expertise in Periodicals mail, which has the most complex rates and regulations of all the classes of mail. This course is also available at the NCED center, or by attending qualifying sessions at NPF and PCC events.

Enrollment

The new BMA web site provides easy access for enrollment and payment for these training sessions, which range from $75.00 for the online Mail Design Professional course to $1,500.00 for the five-day EMCM course, and includes lodging, meals, and training materials.
