LA NDC Mailing Facility Closed August 23
The Los Angeles CA Network Distribution Center (NDC) will be closed for one day on Monday, August 23, 2010. The closure is due to major facility work which necessitates a full power outage from 0500 to 1700 hours. NDC's are the new name for the facilities previously known as Bulk Mail Centers (BMC's).
NDC Closure Details
Mailers should note the following regarding this one day closure on Monday, August 23:
- Only a hand full of maintenance engineers will be on-site during that time.
- Systems start up will begin sequentially after 1700 hours and will take a few hours to complete.
- All mail processing types; parcels, bundles, trays, sacks, bedloads are affected.
Effects on Drop Shipped Mail
Mailers are asked to plan their production and logistics to the LA NDC for Monday, 8/23 as if it were a widely observed postal holiday. FAST Appointment Slots will be adjusted to prevent Plant Verified Drop Shipment (PVDS) appointments for that date (8/23).
Mailers planning drop shipments to the LA NDC during this time period will have the following options for drop ship mail entry:
- Saturday, 8/21 (expanded appointment slots)
- Sunday, 8/22 (expanded appointment slots)
- Tuesday, 8/24 (expanded appointment slots)
It should be noted that Destination NDC (DNDC) mailings can NOT be diverted to other Los Angeles basin processing centers.
Effects on all USPS mail
While the USPS has planned for and communicated this facility closure, mailers should anticipate some delay for mail destined to this area during this time frame. Plans for time-sensitive or dated mail should be reviewed and any necessary adjustments made.
