PRC Approves January Postage Increase

As we told you in our October 28, 2011 E-tip, the United States Postal Service announced their intention to increase postage on market dominant products by an average of 2.133%, effective January 22, 2012. This increase was approved on Tuesday 11/22/2011 by the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC).

USPS Price Increases

The price increases vary by mail class and processing category and are listed below:

First-Class Mail Product Price Changes
Standard Mail Product Price Changes
Planned Average Percentage Price Increase for Periodicals

Special Services Price Adjustment

Timing of price adjustments for Mailers

The USPS also announced their intention to, starting with this filing, implement the price adjustments for both market-dominant and competitive products at the same time, and that this adjustment going forward will be in January of each year. In the past, the USPS has implemented price adjustments for competitive products in January and for market-dominant products in April or May. Mailers may reference the PRC Order for more details on the PRC approval, including comments from the mailing industry regarding the proposed price adjustments.
